Game Summary

You can play 16 challenging courses, including twelve Dreamcast exclusives (Arcade version has 4 courses.), and 19 car types, including 11 Dreamcast exclusives, each with unique handling. Therefore you enjoy four play mode, including Time Attack Mode, Arcade Mode, Ten Year Championship Mode, and Versus Mode. In Versus Mode, split-screen racing allows two races to play at the same time.
And more, you can customize vehicles, for example change tire, suspension, and steering to adjust to road conditions, weather, and time of day.

ARCADE

Select either Championship or Practice mode. CHANPIONSHIP : Time Limit
Racing against 15 computer-controlled opponents, your goal is to finish each course before the time remaining reaches zero (failing to do so will result in game over). The playable time can be extended by passing various checkpoints throughout the course. Time remaining at the end of one stage is added to the time counter of the next.

PRACTICE : Time Limit
Select one of the four courses, and race against one computer-controlled car. You must finish before the time counter reaches zero.

10 YEAR CHAMPIONSHIP

Compete for the championship over a continued period of ten years. Starting from year one, each year you must complete the final course in order to progress to the next year. Over the period of one year you will race in different weather conditions and at different times of the day (morning, afternoon, evening, night). Achieve first position in any year to gain access to another type of car.

Car and Drive System Infomation

FF (Front Engine, Front Drive)
This car set-up has the engine in the front, with all the power directed to the front wheels. Handling is sharp with a stable driving balance, making this system easy to drive. As all the weight is concentrated in the front half, this system tends to make the vehicles under steer around corners, and affects its acceleration.
<Entry Cars>
FIAT SEICENTO (DC & INTERNATIONAL ORIGINAL)
RENAULT MAXI MEGANE (DC ORIGINAL)
PEUGEOT 306 MAXI (DC ORIGINAL)

FR (Front Engine, Rear Drive)
The front wheels control the steering while the rear wheels produce the driving power. This system is often introduced into production sports cars. However, first time players may find this harder to manage than FF or 4WD. This system tends to push the centre of gravity of the vehicles outwards under tight drifting manoeuvres.
<Entry Car>
FIAT 131 ABARTH RALLY

MR (Mid Engine, Rear Drive)
This set-up has the engine in the middle of the vehicle, with all the power sent to the rear wheels. The layout generates progressing handling due to the weight distribution between front and rear, creating quick reaction from the steering, which helps the vehicle turn corners more sharply. The downside to this however is the tendency to over steer, due to the centrifugal force is further to the rear of the vehicle.
<Entry Cars>
LANCIA STORATOS ' 76
LANCIA 037 RALLY

4WD (4 Wheel, Drive) This layout is the mainstream of all WRC. Front and rear wheels have driving power, so this driving force has high driving stability and acceleration. This system also allows the vehicle to go the whole distance on any driving condition better than any other set up. Some under steer is still evident due to the placement of the engine in the front.
<Entry Cars>
LANCIA DELTA Integrale 16V
LANCIA HF Integrale
PEUGEOT 205 TURBO 16
PEUGEOT 206 WRC
TOYOTA CELICA GT-Four ST-185
TOYOTA CELICA GT-Four ST-205
TOYOTA COROLLA WRC
MITSUBISHI LANCER Evo3
MITSUBISHI LANCER Evo4
MITSUBISHI LANCER Evo6
SUBARU IMPREZA 555
SUBARU IMPREZA WRC

RR (Rear Engine, Rear Drive)
This system has the engine in the extreme rear, forcing the inside of the car to be wider. The vehicles characteristics is similar to a MR car, in that it tends to over steer. It is more evident in this set-up due to the extreme position of the engine at the back.
<Entry Car>
RENAULT ALPINE A110

Technique Guide

To achieve the fastest time possible, master the following basic techniques.

Drift driving
Used to negotiate tight corners. There are two kinds of drift-acceleration drift and braking drift. Acceleration Drift
When the machine approach the corner,
1, Ease off the accelerator.
2, Step on the accelerator and turn handle at the same time.
3, When the machine begins to slip, turn the steering in the opposite direction to the corner, and line up the body of the car with the road and ease off the acceleration.

Braking Drift
(More effective in tight corners than acceleration drift) When the machine approach the corner,
1, Ease off the accelerator.
2, Brake briefly, then while continuing to steer in the direction of the corner, step on the accelerator.
3, When the machine begins to drift, turn the steering in the opposite direction to the corner, line up the body of the car with the road and ease off the acceleration.

Handbrake
A new feature of Sega Rally 2 is the inclusion of a handbrake. Use the handbrake to lock the back tires, forcing the car to drift. This technique is particularly useful when negotiating hairpin corners.

Tire Driving

  • Not let tires slip
  • Clear corner using grip of tires the maximum without drifting.

  • *It is faster to clear a corner using tire grip than drifting. Use tire grip to achieve a faster time.
